Family Class
The Canada Family Class is a program in the Canadian immigration system that enables Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor eligible family members to come and live in Canada. The eligible family members include the spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, dependent children, parents, and grandparents of the sponsor. The program helps reunite families and promote family unity. To be eligible, the sponsor must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, meet certain financial requirements, and the sponsored family members must meet certain eligibility criteria. The application process can be complex and time-consuming.
Parent and Grandparent
Super Visa
The Parents and Grandparents Super Visa is a special visa program introduced by the Canadian government in 2011 to allow parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents to visit Canada for up to five years at a time, without the need for visa renewals, for a period of up to 10 years.
Applicants must provide proof of relationship and sponsorship, undergo a medical examination, obtain medical insurance coverage, and meet other standard eligibility requirements. It is a popular option for Canadian citizens and permanent residents who want to bring their aging parents or grandparents to Canada for an extended period of time.
Parents and Grandparents
Sponsorship
The Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship program allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents to live in Canada as permanent residents.
The process involves two steps: an expression of interest to the sponsor and an invitation to apply. The program has a limited number of spots available each year, and the selection process is based on random draws. Sponsors are financially responsible for their parents or grandparents for a specific period, usually 20 years, ensuring they have the necessary support to settle in Canada. The program promotes family reunification while maintaining the integrity of Canada’s immigration system.
Dependent Sponsorship
The Dependent Sponsorship Program is a part of the Family Sponsorship Program in Canada, allowing Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their unmarried dependent children under 22 years old or over 22 years old if they are dependent due to a mental or physical condition.
The sponsor must meet eligibility requirements, including financial support, and agree to provide the necessary support for their sponsored child to settle in Canada. The program aims to promote family reunification, but it has specific requirements and limitations, and the application process can be complex.
Spousal Sponsorship
The Canada Spousal Sponsorship program allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their spouse or common-law partner for permanent residency in Canada.
Eligibility requirements include being legally married or in a common-law relationship, demonstrating a genuine relationship, and meeting financial support obligations. The program promotes family reunification, but the application process can be complex and time-consuming.
Common Law Sponsorship
The Canada Common Law Sponsorship program is part of the Family Sponsorship program that enables Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their common-law partner, who they have lived with for at least one year, for permanent residency in Canada.
Both the sponsor and the sponsored partner must have a genuine committed and exclusive relationship. Eligibility requirements include the sponsor being a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, demonstrating financial ability to support the sponsored partner and agreeing to provide necessary support for their basic needs. The program is a popular option for couples who have been living together but are not legally married, and the application process can be complex and time-consuming.
Conjugal Sponsorship
The Canada Conjugal Sponsorship program is part of the Family Sponsorship Program that allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their partner for permanent residency in Canada when they cannot be classified as a spouse or common-law partner.
To be eligible, the couple must have a genuine and exclusive relationship for at least one year and demonstrate that they have maintained a close and committed relationship despite being unable to live together due to circumstances beyond their control. The sponsor must meet certain eligibility requirements and demonstrate the financial means to support their sponsored partner. The application process can be complex and time-consuming.
